The Eastern Arc Mountains Conservation Endowment Fund (EAMCEF) proudly marks the International Day for Zero Emissions with the theme “Give our planet one day off a year”. This theme reminds us of our responsibility to minimize pollution and live sustainably to safeguard the Environment. In alignment with these efforts, EAMCEF has contributed to conserving the Eastern Arc Mountains (EAMs), which play a critical role in sustaining the water flow to major Rivers and Dams, such as the Pangani River (supplying the Pangani Falls Hydropower Station and Hale Hydroelectric Plant), the Great Ruaha River (powering Kidatu and Mtera Hydroelectric Plants), the Rufiji River (for the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station), and the Kihansi River (for the Lower Kihansi Hydropower Station). These rivers support Hydroelectric Power generation, a Renewable Energy source responsible for more than 50% of Tanzania’s electricity supply, essential for driving Economic Growth and Development.

Similarly, EAMCEF has supported Protected Areas and Local Communities adjacent to Nature Forest Reserves in Tree-Planting Initiatives aimed at Carbon Offsetting. To date, more than 6,500,000 trees have been planted through these efforts.

EAMCEF encourages everyone to take part in planting more trees and protecting Critical Ecosystems like the EAMs, ensuring a steady flow of essential services for both present and future generations. Together, we can make a difference and contribute to a cleaner and healthier future.

EAMCEF marks the Zero Emissions Day by conserving EAMs,support hydropower, plant 6.5m trees for carbon offsetting, and protecting ecosystems.
