The tree-planting project at our school, Pinde Primary, began in 2014 with support from the Eastern Arc Mountains Conservation Endowment Fund (EAMCEF). The goal was to enrich the soil on our land, and it has been a great success. Before the project, our school harvested very little, but now we produce around 20 sacks of maize per season, thanks to the improved soil fertility. Parents no longer need to contribute maize for school meals, as the harvest is sufficient. Additionally, we no longer rely on firewood from the Uluguru Mountains; instead, we use pruned branches from the planted trees, protecting the environment while meeting our needs. We are incredibly grateful to EAMCEF for bringing such a beneficial project to our school.
